About Our Organization

Connecting Our Community: Trails, Action & Advocacy

We are built upon trails, stewardship, advocacy, and community connections. Each plays an important role in creating the foundation of VVMTA to inspire the community engagement which drives our success.

Trails

Trails are the literal and figurative ground upon which we built VVMTA. We have designed, created, and maintained trails in Eagle County since 2011, and we consider ourselves humble experts in this arena. Every decision we make weighs the needs of the land and our community and aims to encourage more people to get out and hit the trails. We will continue to build singletrack routes to improve resource protection, recreational opportunities, economic development, and support active citizens throughout Eagle County. Whatever your “why” is for being on the trail, we welcome you and will continue to sustain our trails for the benefit of all.

Stewardship

We are stewards of our trails, from the OG trails that were here first to proposed routes in various stages of planning and building. Recreation on our trails has an impact – plain and simple –  and as our population of trail users increases, so too does our commitment to maintaining this amenity. We plan and act in a way that minimizes our footprint, linking stewardship and advocacy efforts together. The critical issues, like seasonal and other trail closures, are coupled with the exciting ones, like new trails or improved access. There is a balance between experiencing nature and understanding of our impact. Every trail user has the potential to be a powerful steward. Together, there is nothing we can’t achieve.

Advocacy

We are experts in our field, and we also understand the importance of collaboration with our many stakeholders and community partners. We advocate for responsible, sustainable trail planning by sharing our knowledge and expertise, serving as a strategic partner for land managers and local governments. Our mission must be aligned with the goals of partner organizations to achieve the desired outcomes while respecting the needs of others. VVMTA has extensive knowledge and experience, allowing us to provide expert advice and guidance on all things trails.

Connections

Connection to our local trails starts with access for all. Regardless of our differences, trail users share this common ground, allowing vital connections with the great outdoors and others in our community. Everyone has a right to explore our trails and responsibly recreate in a way that resonates with them. Access to trails, nature, and surrounding public lands creates a strong and healthy community, improves our quality of life, and directly reflects why we love living  in Eagle County. Ensuring these trails are maintained, respected, and sustainable is a shared responsibility of our community.
