Established in 1977, SafeHouse Denver is the only agency in the city and county of Denver that provides a full continuum of care to adults, children, and youth experiencing domestic violence.
SafeHouse Denver works to eliminate domestic violence in our communities by:
SafeHouse began as a 16-bed shelter providing a safe place for women and their children. Today, SafeHouse Denver serves all survivors of domestic violence because domestic violence does not discriminate. Our Emergency Shelter has expanded to 34 beds plus cribs, serving more than 250 adults and children in a typical year. We also offer short-term housing for survivors and their children at our 6-unit 2-bedroom Extended Stay Program. In addition, SafeHouse serves hundreds more adults, children, and youth through Non-Residential Services. More than just keeping survivors safe, SafeHouse services include individual counseling, advocacy support groups, and referrals to other services.
SafeHouse Denver assists adults, children, and youth in reclaiming their right to a life free from domestic violence.
Thank you to the survivors, supporters, volunteers, community partners, board members, and staff who make it possible for us to provide critical resources to survivors of domestic violence at no charge.
"I'm involved for many reasons, but primarily because I think it is important for people to understand that domestic violence is not confined to any particular race or class - anyone can be a victim and may need our help. I want people to know that there is help available." – SafeHouse Denver Board Member
“What better way to address the issue of domestic violence than by creating a safe place for those directly impacted? SafeHouse Denver is that place, and I’m proud to serve on the Board of such a vital and effective organization. As families work through difficult challenges, the safe haven which SafeHouse Denver provides often creates the environment for a greater chance of a successful reunion of families.” - SafeHouse Denver Board Member
"I have been repeatedly “WOWED” by the sensitive and effective work of Safehouse staff members. To see their passion put to work is to witness the goodness of humanity and be reminded that we are all interdependent. To be a part of an organization that is vital to the well-being of the community is something that I truly treasure, as it brings balance and perspective to my life." – SafeHouse Denver Volunteer
Thanks to kind-hearted individuals like yourself, survivors can access SafeHouse Denver's valuable services at no cost.
"I started in the shelter. I was abused and broken and feeling sad. I got a job, opened a bank account, saved money, was active in the program, and maintained my ambitions. I am blessed to have SafeHouse Denver to be a part of my journey." – Extended Stay Program Resident
"I came to Colorado feeling unsure of everything- knowing no one and not wanting to be here. Each of you has made me feel welcome and offered help in this difficult transition. I have been offered a job with benefits and I can move into an apartment when I get my first check. Thank you for these wonderful opportunities." - Emergency Shelter Resident
"SafeHouse has given me a safe place to take a shower, eat warm food, and sleep without fear. This is the first time in a year and a half that I have been able to do these things without my husband watching and calling me names. The shelter is amazing, and I thank you for allowing me to stay." – Emergency Shelter Resident
"I am very glad you came to our school to teach us about healthy and unhealthy relationships. Now I know what to look for in a relationship. I learned how to get help to get out of an unhealthy situation. We do not have to do it alone. Thank you for filling our minds with useful information. " - DPS Student who participated in our community education efforts
"I’ve come an extremely long way since I first arrived at the shelter. I now know how to survive on my own! Because of SafeHouse Denver, I have new glasses to see, and new teeth to smile, but best of all, you helped me get into school. My granddaughter thinks it is the greatest thing that I’m going to school, and so do I! Thank you all! " - Emergency Shelter Resident
