About Our Organization

Celebrating our 15th Anniversary, Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing was founded in 2011 and has been growing ever since, positively impacting the lives of veterans and highlighting the therapeutic benefits of water. Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Wyoming and the State of Colorado. Our Board manages programs in Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming, as well as Fort Collins, Greeley, Lakewood, and Loveland, Colorado. Our mission is to provide rest, recreation, and rehabilitation for active duty, veterans, disabled veterans, and retired military personnel through fly fishing-related activities.

Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing offers basic fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying, and rod building classes specifically designed for veterans. Participants come from all walks of life, with varying fishing abilities, and represent all branches of the military. Fly fishing gear, fly-tying equipment, and materials for rod building are provided at no cost to veterans. Fishing trips, both one-day and multi-day, are also provided free of charge to veterans.

Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing is unique in that our volunteers are teaching classes on an ongoing, long-term basis. It is much more than a one-day fishing trip. For many participants, particularly disabled veterans, the socialization and camaraderie of the classes are just as important as the fishing outings, providing a social and skills-based activity.
