The Pinehurst Foundation is a nonprofit organization helping individuals in the community who are experiencing serious medical/physical restraints and lack the financial ability to meet the demands associated. Our goal is to provide financial assistance for medical and physical aids to enhance a person’s quality of life and empower them to live a positive life in their community.
I am a proud father of three wonderful children, I have two grandchildren. I married my high school sweetheart, RaNae. and we will celebrate our 37th anniversary later this year. I have always been very productive in my workplace and in the community. I coached hundreds of kids in soccer, and helped led the way to the first charter school in Cherry Creek school District in 1995. I worked for the same company for 33 years, and lived in the same neighborhood for 33 years.
All that changed on February 23, 2018, when I suffered a C6 broken neck injury. I was on vacation with my family in Hawaii, out in the ocean with my two sons. A wave crushed me into the ocean floor. With about 2 seconds of breath left in me, my youngest son Randy luckily found me. He rolled me over and called for his brother to help. I knew I was hurt pretty bad but didn’t know it was that bad.
After a difficult 3 month healing period, I have been working out at NeuAbility here in Denver since mid-August. It is a type of therapy that I know I need to get the strength to do my own transfers and gain my independence. The staff there knows how to motivate me and work me hard. I am in my manual chair most days, unless I need to drive. In order to drive I must use my power chair, which does help my shoulders. But I prefer to be in my manual chair.
In one second on February 23 my family’s life changed. This type of injury is devastating, but my family has been there to support me the whole way. With the continued help of needed therapy, we will learn to live with this injury.
I have always been a giving person supporting many different non profits in the Denver area. Now I seem to be the one in need of help.
With the support of The Pinehurst Foundation, I am able to get the much-needed help of a trainer to guide my work out. Building the muscles is so important to independence for a quadriplegic. And the only way to build them is with the assistance of a trainer.
YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME AND I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
The upcoming golf tournament is another way the Pinehurst Foundation is able to raise money to assist others in our community.
